Bangladesh’s Interim Chief Adviser Briefs Diplomats: Sheikh Hasina's Dictatorship Has Undermined Institutions, Reforms Planned Before Elections

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, stated that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's dictatorship has dismantled the country's institutions. "I've taken over at a time of significant turmoil across almost all sectors," Yunus said. He announced that the interim government will oversee free, fair, and participatory elections after reforms in the Election Commission, judiciary, public administration, law enforcement, and media.

This announcement came during a briefing with ambassadors and representatives from international organizations, including the United Nations, held at a hotel in Dhaka on Sunday. Dr. Yunus expressed hope that Bangladesh's international partners would support the country's path toward a democratic future.

Following the briefing, the Chief Adviser’s press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, informed the media that Dr. Yunus is seeking full support from foreign diplomats for this new chapter in Bangladesh's democracy.
